Alcudia...A week in the sun

Holiday time!!! This September we jetted off to the Spanish island of Majorca! No not to the party capital Magaluf (Those holidays are a few years behind me now) but up north to Alcudia. This is a more couples and family friendly resort with a bit more relaxed atmosphere and a not so 'bar crawl, shots and cocktail fish bowl environment' although an excursion was offered to us at the hotel welcome meeting, a Magaluf party bus trip with free entry into BCM (I was a little tempted).

Our room was on the very top floor off the hotel, which we were hoping for overlooking the pool area with fantastic views of Alcudia, Bellvue lake and seafront. This lake was dead calm like a plane of glass at times. I got thinking how good this would to wakeboard on, in the Majorcan sun.
If I could only find a local with a Mastercraft boat and boarding gear! (Our August ODD Wakeboarding outing must have left its mark. See my earlier blog)

This was the break we needed, a nice relaxing break in the sun, one or two heavy nights out (who am I kidding, most nights, we were on our jollys after all!) on the local ales and drinking comical cocktails, swinging in bamboo chairs suspended from the roof (see pic).

When we finally pulled ourselves off the sun loungers and away from the poolside we took a bus ride into Alcudia old town, this was a small village/town enclosed in castle defensive walls with real old worldly charm with cobbled streets and alleyway with a mixture of restaurants and upmarket souvenir and fashion shops. There is a large market here on Mondays and Thursdays.

On the Thursday we went out for the day on a catamaran out to the beach of Formentera. A picture perfect secluded beach area about 20 miles away. The day was HOT! Not sure if it was the sea breeze being out on the water but we did burn that day (even with high factor suntan lotion on). On the beach at Formentera looking out to see it almost look like you are in an inland lake with land on each side.

Alcudia is nice resort and I think we will definitely be back to northern Majorca soon. Maybe a little more exploring next time...but its so tempting in the days heat just to spend it round the pool, especially when the bar is so close!
