Headphones Moment - Tron Legacy Soundtrack

As a regular feature we'll be sharing with you what sort of music is finding it's way onto our ipods, into our cars and on our spotify playlists of late. Who knows we may help you discover something new or unearth some forgotten classics...

Back in the early eighties the film Tron was released, although I was a teeny bopper when first released (I must have seen when it was on the box). I loved this film with it's mixture of traditional film and cutting edge computer graphics, which for it's time just blew my tiny mind. So when Tron Legacy was released in 2010 it was one of the new breed of 3D films which could really show what they could do with today's computer processing power and new 3D technology. I was like that excited child again, sprawling neon cityscapes, games arena and light cycle races! I loved the film! (The CGI Jeff Bridges/Clue can look a little dodgy at times but I'm willing to let that go!)

You may ask, this is a headphones moment not a favourite film moment, but, it leads me on to the soundtrack... What a soundtrack! Created by Daft Punk and Joseph Trapanese (original score) with a mixture of orchestral and electronic music, this complements the film style and content perfectly. I have always been a fan of Daft Punk, with their cutting edge, futuristic vibe, which is what I like about their sound. Some would say ahead of their time and back in the day they were! Many of the sounds you hear today in electronic music have been inspired by Daft Punk. Oh, they dress like robots... What's not to like!

At first listen, it took me a while to get into this album, as it's a film soundtrack, some of the tracks can be relatively short, but a few more full listens then it quickly became one of my favourites, and in my eyes a classic, especially tracks The Grid, Recognizer and End of Line. As well as the Tron Legacy soundtrack to accompany the films release, they commissioned a remix album, Tron Legacy Reconfigured which features established and up and coming producers/DJs such as Paul Oakenford, Moby and Japanese Popstars, which takes the already well produced and crafted tracks to a whole new level.

So if you like a futuristic, atmospheric and elecTRONic sound (none of this Dubstep noise, I'm sounding old now), then give both the original soundtrack and the remix album a listen, they wont disappoint... Trust me!
