Pedal to the Mettle

After a winter-long sabbatical, my trusty steed, White Lightning got a dusting down and prepped for my pedal-powered daily commute. Quite boring so far...

This was all prompted by a casual conversation with a colleague in which we decided we were going to cycle the width of England for charity. From Blackpool to Bridlington in 48 hours. It's 137 miles, coast to coast, which doesn't seem too extreme but to someone who lives 1.1 miles from the studio, it's quite daunting.

So this past Bank Holiday, I decided to start my training. Packing only a bottle of water I set off into the unknown. 28 miles later I found myself back in Leeds city centre pawing at my apartment door filled with a sense of achievement bestilled with a sense of dread that I'm going to have to up my game drastically to manage the 70 miles a day our charity ride demands.

Having now set my targets, I aim to be able to do 50 miles a day by the end of July and 70 miles a day by the end of August just in time for the ride. I'll have thighs like Roberto Carlos and an arse like a chewed orange! Game on!
